Do You Have Clean Water? Then You’re in Better Shape than 784 Million People Around the World

Today is World Water Day and if you’re reading this you probably have a glass of water within arms-reach or the ability to get one easily.

Several years ago, I worked for an NGO that helped provide services to children in developing countries around the world. Food, education, safety, and yes, better access to clean water. The work was endless because the need was endless. It still is today.

While everything seemed important to get to these kids, it was access to clean water that was a game-changer for them and for their families.

Children under the age of five with access to clean water keeps deadly diseases away, saving 16,000 lives every week.

Girls who have access to clean water can focus on staying in school instead of helping their mothers collect water every morning

Clean water and proper toilets keeps teenage girls in school without having to miss a week every month for their periods.

Women who have access to clean water can focus on work, their community and their family.

There are amazing organizations working to bring safe water to communities around the world. Just a few dollars a month will give children, girls, women and families the opportunity to have clean water.

Next time you so casually turn on the faucet to wash your hands for the hundredth time or fill up your glass, take a shower or flush your toilet, remember the other 784 million who aren’t as lucky and do your part.
