Crisis Averted For Now

We avert a crisis just about every day in our house. Not a leak or even a fire. Our crisis' stem from my dad. Always one for a challenge, he has added, altered, enhanced or demolished just about every part of our 120+ year old house. These days when he can't find something to fix he 'redecorates' or 'reorganizes' his space in the basement (he moved to the basement after my mom died). He fancies himself quite the decorator and decided today that a chair he sits in every day no long fits the, and I quote, "vibe of the room." So he took a long flat rope and rigged it around the base of the chair and had just put the rope over his head when I spotted him from the top of the staircase and stepped in with a simple, "Whatcha doing?" In all seriousness he said, "I'm going to pull this chair up the stairs using my body weight." Now he is strong, I will give him that, but at 92 with a terrible gait, the idea that he's going to try to pull a heavy chair up a staircase just didn't seem like a wise choice. Where I envision another midnight blood-splattered trek to the ER he sees challenge and innovation.
